Veteran Malayalam actress Meena Ganesh, breathed her last on Thursday, December 19, at Shoranur in Palakkad, as per reports. She was 81. The senior actor passed away early morning at a private hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for the last five days following a cerebral stroke.
Born in Palakkad in 1942, Meena acted in her first play when she was just 19. Her debut movie was P.A. Backer's Manimuzhakkam (1976). She became popular in the industry with her character Pathumma in the 1991 film Mukhamudra. Vasanthiyum Meesha Madhavan, Punaradhivasam, Nandanam, Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum, and Karumadikuttan are some of her best works. Apart from acting in films, Meena also did several serials and plays. She was involved with various theatre groups in Kerala, such as SL Puram Soorya Soma, Kayamkulam Kerala Theatres, and Thrissur Chinmayi, and earned several awards.

Her entry into the world of theatre was through the Koppam Brothers Arts Club during her school days and later she became an active performer. Meena performed theatres in Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, and other places in Tamil Nadu.
In 1971, Meena Ganesh married renowned playwright, director, and actor A.N. Ganesh. She, along with her husband, started a theatre group called Pournami Kalamandir in Shornur. But it didn't last long due to financial crisis.
Meena then started working in plays with other theatre groups. Panchajanyam, Mayookham, Fasah, Swarnamayooram, and Simhasanam among others are some of her best plays. Meena and Ganesh acted together in over 20 plays written by the latter.
